My dad has been delinquent on a credit card payment and avoided calls for a while and they sold the debt to MJR. They sent him a letter stating that they want their money within 10 days or they will take him to court. When on call he asked about his options to pay it all back they recommended a third party lender that charges 30% interest which would be an additional 6k.
What are our options, I feel like letting them take my dad to court and have his wages garnished would be preferable to let some sketchy money lender ratfuck him outta even more money.
Edit: I ended up calling a local legal aid in my city and they put us in contact with an organization that deals with issues like this, we have a meeting next week and hopefully there will be a more amicable resolution. So for anyone facing something similar I recommend calling any sort of legal advice hotline and hopefully they can point you in the right direction.
