Post Body

Hi guys. I'm gonna explain you the context of my situation, hoping you guys can give some advise about this. I am new immigrant. I came to Canada in July 2019 and married my girlfriend in august, since then we have been living in the same house.

We sent my Work Permit and Permanent Residency applications in december of the same year (2019). The Work Permit was approved in august 2020 and in the same month I got my current job and started to pay taxes. in the other hand My Permanent Residency was approved in december 2020.

So, last month me and my wife filed our 2020 tax returns. Mine showed that the CRA was going to give me a 1,100 CAD refund but when they assessed it they changed some things. Instead of the 1,100 CAD refund I have to pay them 330 CAD. In the explanation they say that they disallowed my provincial tax credit because deemed residents and non-residents of Canada do not qualify for this credit.

These are the explanations that they gave me:

We disallowed your provincial tax credit because deemed residents and non-residents of Canada do not qualify for this credit.

We recalculated your federal non-refundable tax credits and changed your total on line 35000 from $2,242 to $425.

We changed your total payable to $1,493.55 because of a calculation error.

We recalculated your Ontario non-refundable tax credits and changed your total to $70.

Since you were a resident of Canada for only part of 2020, we changed your federal and Ontario personal amounts to the maximum allowed. We calculated these amounts based on the number of days you were a resident in Canada during the year.

I understand very little about this but if one of you could explain me in a easier way I'd be very thanksful.
