Hi!
I got a pre-approval for a tangerine world card… woohoo! I’m not sure if I should not take the offer or wait for LOC offers, take it and run with that and use it alongside my other two cards, or get it and cancel one of my cards. Would love your thoughts!
Tangerine world cards have no fees, nice perks, and the idea of having a card attached to a bank account again is so soothing, lol.
My two cards now are:
1) Amex cobalt, sizeable limit, $15ish a month/180 a year, good perks (got it in the spring, tiny credit history)
2) Capital 1 - pretty much the same limit as the pre-approved tangerine, $80 a year, no perks. BUT this card took me out of the credit gutter, it has the longest account age, 5 years almost)
. I guess I am weighing the $80 capital 1 fee against the harm canceling it would cause to my credit score due to overall credit age/history. I don’t need to have a high credit score for anything really, except I do kinda want to apply for a line of credit (so my credit is ~varied~ and improves my score, and it is probably a helpful tool to have).
I am keeping the Amex for sure. sooooo, actual question post-ramble, haha:
Will swapping the cap 1 for the tangerine card bottom-out my credit and make it harder to access the credit tool I actually want (line of credit) ???
is it worth the $80 a year just to keep all 3 cards? I’ve heard it’s not great to have too much cc availability but don’t know what ‘too much’ actually means?????
… last detail, as alluded to, I deeply fucked up my credit as a student, and I don’t fully fully trust myself not to do it again, even if I make ok money in a stable job, and have mostly paid off balances in full every time. there have been a few moments where the balances have crept up (never more than 20% utilization, but 20% of the credit I have already is pretty stressful to pay off?!?!?!)
Any wise words for me? Thanks in advance!
