I’m currently employed with three employers. One of which deducts tax from my pay and two of them deduct EI and CPP. The third employer has a hired me on a contract for three months and will convert me to an employee after the three months are over. This employer gives me my hourly wages as it is without any deductions.
Now while they have hired me as a contractor I received wages like an employee would and work as an employee. Basically I believe the CRA would categorise me as an employee going by their definition of contractors and employees.
I have also earned a bit on the side with Uber. I know that I’ll have to pay CPP contributions for the Uber portion of my earnings. I’m not sure how to go about this 3 month contract.
Should I file a ruling when I’m filing taxes for CRA to figure out whether I’m an employee or a contractor. This is the only option I have found so far.
Is there something called a contractual employee?
Should I just file as a contractor and pay my CPP portion?
