I’ve been working in construction for the last 10 years in Toronto and for 7 of those, I was a Unionized worked with two different unions, Local 506 and Local 598 in which there were weekly deductions towards my pension. For the last 3 years or so, I’ve been working as a contractor and not been paying union dues therefore not contributing to the pension fund.
Is there a way to withdraw that money to put into a savings account or somewhere I can move it so I have peace of mind it’s in the one place? My SIN number has changed since (foreign national) and I’m just wondering should I try move the funds as I don’t intend to stay in this line of work much longer or should I just leave it and wait until retirement? I’m not overly sure how pensions etc work and I’m afraid that money won’t be traceable to me. Sorry if this is an idiotic question
