I have access to piles of Butternuts that seem 100% healthy. I have emailed the (self proclaimed) preservation project and gotten no response, either they do not care or gmail is default blocked.
Until this week I thought butternuts were banned for presumable carrying some disease that threatened wealth. Like currants vs pines.
I just found the problem is they are considered endangered. Not even the .gov can own them or their seeds.
In the fall I saw an exploded boxelder stump that left a ~3' tall pile of butternuts the squirrels thought were secure. I'm sure that would be a life sentence if I got caught Ridin' Dirty.
If you are in WI, Meth Dakota, Iowa, do as you please, the Butternut is not endangered in your state.
For those who do not know what a butternut is: it is a macadamia nut that you need dynamite to access. Yeah, they fight harder than brazil nuts.
