So. Warning for spoilers just in case, this won't really be structured at all but so much a rant.

I'm not really gonna talk about the actors much, or rather their ethnicities, even if it kinda feels like NO ONE looks right. Especially because its not limited to their ethnicities. Like I don't look at any of the characters and go "that's so and so" off the bat. Even Percy with his blueish eyes and dirty blond hair just strikes me wrong when he's meant to have green eyes and black hair. I know a lot of em are kids but contacts and wigs aren't hard to do with decent quality.

Ares was a treat though and Dionysus isn't half bad either, if not lacking some of his more sarcastic mannerisms I feel. Though the only thing I will say is if we're gonna change a bunch of ethnicities why not makes the Greek gods... well... Greek? That kinda feels like the most obvious change to make but so far they're all old or middle aged white guys so far. (Also wasn't Ares' bike described in the books as the seat looking like it was made of human skin? I could be misremembering but just a side note.) Hephaestus was surprising but frankly not a change I really liked.

Like. In the first book, we meet five gods. First it's Dionysus, then Ares, then Hades, and ending with Zeus and Poseidon waiting for the questers. Here we have Dionysus, then Ares, then we get Heph thrown in for the changes to the amusement park (One addition I feel was completely unnecessary. He could have easily heard their plight and silently undid the trap only to call back to it later when they actually meet him in book 4) and then Hermes thrown into the latest episode for... some reason? And a dream sequence with Hades? I'd say Kronos but the original dream sequence around this time with Kronos scolding Luke, they're over a pit. Luke isn't speaking to someone across a desk. Especially not someone who looks like such a poor fit for the titan king. And we've had disembodied voice of Kronos in previous dreams already so like?

It somehow also just feels more rushed. I haven't read the original series in a minute but I did read it multiple times over. And yet a lot of the book content is being rushed only to add in scenes that ultimately really add nothing to the actual story and only take away, because to get these new original scenes it meant sacrificing time spent in camp or on the stuff actually in the book.

I dunno. I thought with Rick around it would be near certain that things would be better and we'd finally get an adaptation that truly does the books justice. Like we'd finally get the books brought to life. And here we are with... not that. It's a new Perry Johnson series.

I dunno man. There's so, so, SOOOO much I could and want to say but I would literally be writing an essay out at that point.

Also slight side note before I end this, episode 1 with Alecto just outright transforming right in front of Chiron was fucking stupid. The scene lacked the tension the book had (And even the God damn movie) and there was no attempt at interrogation either. I'm hoping maybe things get better with Sea of Monsters onwards but frankly I'm not very optimistic. I'm hoping it gets a lot better but this is just a huge letdown so far.

(Though maybe Rick has forgotten his own stories. In his recent Percy centric book suddenly wearing Annabeths cap makes your skin crawl horribly? And there was a reference to tik tok and shit even though I'm fairly certain Tik Tok shouldn't have even been made yet with when Percy was born.)
