A friend of mine picked up what were clearly labeled as Carolina Reapers at a local nursery. The first pepper I got from the plant seemed to have the "stinger" they're so well known for, but the rest of the peppers (still growing under a grow light right now) look far smoother and lack the shape that I've come to know as Carolina Reaper.
I haven't eaten any outright yet, because the first batch was dried and crushed to powder, but I'll give the new ones a taste pretty soon. That said, they smell pretty fruity.
Here's a photo of one of them. They're a bit stunted because we had way too much shade in our yard and a cold summer, but you get the point.
I'm pretty sure my friend didn't mistakenly pick up the wrong plant, because the "Carolina Reaper" tag is still in the pot with the plant, so what gives? Are my reapers just stunted from growing conditions, or were we sold the wrong type of plant?
Thanks!
