A friend of mine dumped a Chinchilla on me. Found another post on here explaining that Animal Welfare would accept them. Called and stated that if I brought in prior to closing on Saturday, waive the fee. I got a list finding them called. I told them I would be a few minutes late, and I was. However, I felt like a jerk taking this animal in there, but honestly, I never wanted it, was only to be temporary, said friend litterally ditched it, changed number, moved idk where. Could not give it away. I could not bring myself to just let it go.
As I dropped off, I signed rights away. Nothing on paper asked anything as to why or anything. However, they did make me feel like a jerk for it. The director lady had a scowl on her face and never looked at me once. I was also late. I also said something along the lines of with babysitting a dog on top of my dog, did catch a mama feral and babies I foster for SAMS midway shelter which did until they had room to take them, and having a cat of my own just too much work. Which at that time it was.
Anyway, so 3 weeks later, I get a notice at my door. Apparently, they took upon themselves to run my name and thought I said I owned 3 dogs and 3 cats. Nope, never said that I have 2 cats and a dog. The dog is chihuahua with ongoing allergy issues, which has prevented him from getting rabies shot and have vet info to prove that as well as meds. The two cats were vaccinated in tazwell and should be registered for 3 yr shots each. I made it perfectly clear that I fostered for SAMS . I can even verify that. They now are scheduling a wellness check, which is fine, but feel is bullshit excuse because they are pissed at me for relinquishing the poop flinging stinky chinchilla. Which I literally know nothing about, explained the situation and now being repremanded. I rambled off my story, which obviously they heard what they wanted because in their system showed no dogs licensed is what I was told. However, I did not know mentioning babysitting a dog and fostering for another agency would trigger a reason to run my name in the system to check me out. It was not on the form I filled out. I know I got a copy. Do not see under the website. They can do their visit. I don't care, but I feel I should reach out to a lawyer.
FYI, my eldest has a dog when she is out of town, I go to her home 3 to 4 times a day to walk and dog sit, not at my home. The mama and kittens, which were like 4 of them, are now gone into SAMS. I have my 2 cats and dog, and they again have vet papers. Also, do believe that they send paperwork to county you live in have in the past regardless don't care.
I have no qualms allowing them to do their welfare check, but I do have indoor and outdoor Ring cameras and will notify them as well as have my personal recording will request. I mean, they can see where they are fed, no fleas, water clean, catfood is up and separate from dog food, idc. I do know if I don't comply they may be dicks obtain a search warrant and come back with police and look for any miniscule issue to charge me with.
I have never had this issue with any other agency. I have participated in TNR of ferals, helped homeless dogs, even helped my nieghbors when they had issues with animals, educate on wildlife and how we humans can minimize risk of attracting coyotes, raccoons, and other critters to our properties using environmentally and animal safe ways. I just feel very perplexed and a bit upset over this although I have nothing to hide. I don't know why this is getting to me because it litterally just don't seem right. All the city information as well as on thier website I see nothing that would trigger this aside from just purely mad over me not just releasing a chinchilla into the wild when absolutely no one else would accept it. I also missed the building as not familiar with area which caused me to be 15 min late which I called they were aware, and staff were there still on site as they had some small animal fair that day. I feel I am being punished for doing the right thing, I guess. It did teach me that I will never use them unless absolutely necessary or recommend them again. I still feel I should consider consulting a lawyer, though. Does anyone know of one in the area who would specialize in something like this?
