Messed up in act 1. Should I press on or am I better off restarting?

I've just finished act 1 and am really enjoying the game so far. :)

However, I didn't realise until the end of the act that you don't have to go directly for the next objective and that it's probably better to explore and collect clues.

Will I miss a lot if I continue (no spoilers please ;)) or would it be better to restart?

I restarted Act 1 like 4 times (it was awful) and honestly, I probably would have been fine not restarting and continuing on. I was panicking about my choices far more than I should have.
