This is reportedly fixed as of Reddit App version 2022.37.0; please make sure your app is up to date. If you're still having trouble, read below for alternate solutions, and let us know if this is still necessary. This post will be taken down on Monday if we do not hear that users are still experiencing this problem.
Users on the official Reddit app keep getting stuck on a screen with the Next button grayed out, and usually a message at the bottom saying "Not Allowed In This Community". If you are seeing that screen, please read the instructions below for a work-around. This appears to be an app bug, and we are working to report it to Reddit to get them to fix it. We will update this announcement when we're able to determine it has been fixed.
This appears to impact both iOS and Android; we're still seeing way too many posts for this to be affecting every app user, so please let us know if you are able to post using the app, so we can try to identify an in-app workaround. The following App versions have been confirmed to be broken: Reddit App version 2022.36.309685, iOS 16.0.2 on iPhone 13 Pro.
The changelog for version 2022.37.0 reports this as fixed on iOS, however that version is not yet available to all users. It's not clear from that post if this fix also applies to Android either. The workarounds below can be used if you don't have the update yet.
- The simplest work-around is to post from a laptop or computer. Log into your account on Reddit.com and make your post; you can return to the app afterwards if you wish, as chat/commenting still appears to work fine.
- If you don't have a computer handy, you can post using a 3rd-party app such as Apollo for Reddit (iOS only) or [put android popular app}. Note that Reddit blocks users of unofficial apps from accessing chat, so while you can post from one, you'd have to switch back to the official one to receive your responses.
- Posting from your phone's mobile browser may also work. Open Reddit.com in your browser, log in, and then search for our community there. If you are unable to get past the prompts to install the broken app, you might be able to bypass those by using the Request Desktop Site feature of your browser, or by going to https://New.Reddit.com in your phone's browser.
Note that the official Reddit apps are incredibly broken. The following features are largely or completely broken in the official apps at this time:
- Making posts
- Searching posts by location
- Searching posts by R4R flair
- Reporting Private Messages
All of these functions work on the desktop site, and most of them work in 3rd-party apps.
