I am a resident of Pennsylvania but I was previously a resident of Maryland. I volunteered at a museum that started requiring volunteer clearances and if you live in the state of Pennsylvania for the last 10 years that you do not get a background check done however since I lived in the state of Maryland within the last 10 years I did need to get a background check done. I did not agree with the rules but forth for the organization and so I did not want to go through with the clearances so people thought I was hiding something. I found out that one of the members decided that they were going to do a background check on me and I don't know how you do that without someone's personal information, but this person spread the information around the organization cuz they felt like I was hiding something. Okay I have a past but that's my past to worry about not anyone else's to worry about since it doesn't affect anyone else. So I did my background check and I kept it to myself to see if I am eligible to volunteer and I knew what the answer was I just needed it in writing. So there's another volunteer there that if you don't live or have not lived outside of the state and you only lived in Pennsylvania then you sign a waiver stating that you have not committed any of the crimes that have been listed which the list is quite long and thorough. You can pull up anyone's criminal record online I've done it for myself so I knew that he was hiding something so I found his not a background check but a criminal docket. I didn't show it to anybody I kept it to myself but I hinted that how does this guy get to volunteer when I am not able to volunteer. So the waiver that he's signed stating that he did not commit any of the felonies or misdemeanors, he lied on it. Two people that are higher up in the organization knew about his past and the secretary knew about his past and yet allowed him to volunteer. So my question is if we both are not allowed to volunteer and he does not need to get a background check because he lives in the state of Pennsylvania and lied on this waiver form, how can I present this to I guess a law enforcement group that can do something about it.? I only think it's fair and I really wish that regardless of whether you live in Pennsylvania or not, you should have to do a background check to volunteer around children this is what the whole volunteer clearances are for but I find it very unfair that if you live in the state of Pennsylvania you do not need to do it so you can hide behind what you've done and basically get away with it it and continue volunteering. I know this is a very long post but I needed to explain the background and explain my feelings and thoughts towards this subject. Thank you.
