Does math placement and class matter?

Penn state said that the aleks is for math placement and only for students that never took calculus. it is only for them to determine the right class. I have didn’t take the calculus class in my senior year and only have 3 years of math in high school. Will the classes affect my time and amount of work? Like will they affect graduation? And do they have different pacing? How much do they affect students that take major that doesn’t require any math? I am a 27 student.
