I’m not sure if I should keep seeing this pelvic floor physical therapist or seek out someone else. What do you all think? What would you do? I think I need more structure.
I had my first session today. I found out the physical therapist is actually medical assistant and does PT on the side.
Her office was hard to find in a small pocket of a combined office building. We sat down in a small room decorated with crystals and spiritual artwork. I noticed a tarot card on one of the tables. I guess the space is also a yoga studio. Typically I like more local functional practitioners and the setup had a similar vibe as a my naturopath.
We sat down and she asked a lot of questions about my history, symptoms, and treatments and she took a lot of notes.
She explained which muscles and nerves could be involved with each symptom. Mine are right testicle pain, right perineal pain, occasional pain at tip of penis, and urine spraying. I also get hip pain on the right side that moves from front to back and side.
She examined my breathing and explained how it should be like opening an umbrella, going down to my pelvic floor and opening up my ribs and upper body. 9 second inhale, 7 second exhale. Mine weren’t quite as long and she told me to go deeper.
She told me not to do kegels because they will tighten up the muscles.
As far as a plan, here’s what I was told to do: 10-15 deep breaths several times a day. Breathe long. Continue with CPPS stretches daily. She didn’t give any specific ones. Also, try sitting on a tennis ball. Place it between your anus and testicles and try rolling on it seared. She said I can lift my testicles to get closer to get the area below them.
I’m supposed to meet her again next week and I plan on doing everything she recommended. But I was expecting more of a personalized plan. I’ve already been doing stretches and the tennis ball prior but she told me my breaths should be longer and to really focus on this.
Is this normal for a first session? Should I look for someone else in the meantime?
Thanks y’all.
