i see a lot of discourse on the last episode and people saying that vigilante is too dumb now and that everything he did in ep 6 was out of character but i really don’t think it was.

we were introduced to vigilante through his voicemails to peacemaker where he’s being like “hey best friend miss you” pretty much. then he sees peacemaker at the diner but peacemaker doesn’t know he’s vigilante yet and he literally at peacemaker like he has a crush on him. then he goes out in the alley all giddy about peacemaker being back and when his coworker comes out he tries to act like he’s excited for a “completely normal reason” which to him is that his gf is pregnant, and when his coworker calls him out for always asking him to set him up with his cousin vig changes the story to the girl getting an abortion lol. also invites said coworker to the fake abortion.

in the second episode he just shows up at peacemaker’s house completely unannounced and invites him to come destroy appliances with him. in the third episode he just freaks out about his pinky toe the whole time and insists it’s the most important toe and that he’ll fall over without it.

in the 4th episode he’s all mad at peacemaker about his toe still, then he messes up the whole duck metaphor for WD being racist. also when adebayo asks if he’s vigilante which he clearly is, he tries to lie and changes his voice and when she calls him out for changing his voice he says he was about to cough.

i feel like people watched the 4th episode and were like “wow he’s not nerdy and naive, he’s just a secret badass” like no he is very much the same character he’s always been, and a part of the reason he was such a badass was because he was standing up for peacemaker because he clearly loves him and just wants him to be happy and he thought killing WD would do that. vigilante is dumb (not intellectually but behavior), naive, childish, nerdy, AND a badass. we just saw more of peacemaker this episode and i really think he’s just more trusting of peacemaker and the team now and actually feels like he’s a part of something and feels comfortable being his genuine self now.

i feel like him being more “dumb” this episode was likely a very conscious choice for his character development. also the oriental joke wasn’t out of character, a lot of people don’t know that word is bad/why it is. i really think they were just using it as a way to show peacemaker’s moving further and further away from his father’s ideals.
