How competitive do you reckon the PDH playerbase is?

I noticed there's a small community of PDH tinkerers in my area and seeing [[Melek]] getting downshifted to Uncommon gives me some hopes that this Weird might actually end up having a playable shell,
Though most events for it being mostly 1v1 is setting off alarm bells in my head in how it's mostly likely going to be powered down Duel Commander but without as many consistent enablers.
Curious what I should be expecting in a more competitive meta?
