Camelphile (WUBG) NEW TIER 1 DECK!!!
Post Body

Warning: The power of the camel is raw and unchained, as such, this new archetype has a lot of room to grow and develop. This means that the current decklist is not fully optimised and its matchup spread will improve with time. It's amazing!...maybe

Decklist: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/wubg-camelphile/

The Combo

We use [[Quarry Hauler]] (camel) to add a large number of counters onto [[Heliophial]] (phile) and then sac it to kill our opponent.

"Where do we get all these Quarry Hauler triggers from?" You may ask. Well let me tell you.

We will be using the time honoured Pauper value engine of Archaeomancer and [[Ghostly Flicker]]. However, for reasons we will discuss soon, the part of the Archaeomancer will be played by [[Mnemonic Wall]] in our deck.

This is all well and good but we would require a vast amount of mana in order to get a reasonable number of counters on our Heliophial. For that we have; [[Snap]]!

In order to get infinite mana using Snap we will be performing the following loop.

Current Gamestate:

  • Battlefield: Mnemonic Wall and two lands.

  • Hand: Snap

Step 1:

  • Float mana from lands

Step 2:

  • Cast Snap targeting Mnemonic Wall, untapping your lands

Step 3:

  • Recast Mnemonic Wall targeting Snap

The more observant among you may have noticed that this process leaves us 5 mana out of pocket. How does this give us infinite mana? We will be borrowing from the old Familiar Combo Deck. Using both [[Nightscape Familiar]] and [[Sunscape Familiar]] we will reduce the costs of both Mnemonic Wall and Snap.

"But EchoedWinds, we would need four familiars on the battlefield to break even mana from this process!" Exactly! That is why we have included the Bouncelands: [[Simic Growth Chamber]], [[Azorius Chancery]] and [[Dimir Aquaduct]]. If we have two Bouncelands on the battlefield, then we will only need three Familiars in order to gain mana.

However, we still have one issue. We have a very limited supply of blue mana. None in fact. That will prevent us from casting out Ghostly Flicker as many times as we'd like. Which is why we have included [[Dawn's Reflection]] and [[Fertile Ground]]. Not only do they allow us to have infinite blue mana, they also reduce the number of required familiars to combo. But wait there's more! They also let us combo off a turn earlier!

If you have snuck a quick look at the list we are providing here, you may have noticed we have included only single copies of Quarry Hauler, Heliophial and Ghostly Flicker. How do we intend to draw those cards? Once we have infinite mana we can make great use of [[Train of Thought]] to draw the remainder of our deck.

In summary, you need to have two lands which tap for at least enough mana to cast both Mnemonic Wall and Snap, with one additional mana. One of them must be enchanted with either Fertile Grounds or Dawn's Reflection. You must have Mnemonic Wall on the battlefield, as well as both Snap and Train of Thought in hand. Cast Snap and you're off to the races!

There you have it! That's the combo!

Setting Up The Combo

If you have any experience playing combo decks, you may know that they suffer from a high level of variance. To fix this problem in Camelphile, we have designed our combo with tutors in mind. Most of our combo pieces have a CMC of two, allowing us to find all of our missing components using [[Dimir Infiltrator]], [[Muddle the Mixture]] and [[Shred Memory]]. The last remaining combo piece, Mnemonic Wall, can be searched for using [[Brainspoil]]. Using a whopping sixteen tutors! We can greatly reduce Camelphile's variance.

The final upside we gain from playing this many tutors, is an incredibly efficient sideboard. Almost all our sideboard cards have a CMC of two, allowing them to be searched up using our tutors! This allows us to side-in only a single copy of a card, with thirteen ways with which to draw that card! Therefore, we can sideboard for almost all of the main match-ups in Pauper's meta.

Closing Statement

We would appreciate any and all improvements to the decklist that you may have to offer. Please be sure to also recommend what you think would be good to remove to replace with the cards you would add. Help with the sideboard plan would also be much appreciated, with answers for such decks as Delver based decks, Tron decks and Control Decks!
