As we all know the Pats are trying to learn and grow in to the wide/stretch/outside zone offense that has gained popularity around the league in the last few years. I get why they’re doing this. Offensively, it allows you to attack teams anywhere from sideline to sideline with mobile blocking schemes which are harder to defend than more static, up the gut blocks. And defensively, this is a scheme our defense is going to see a lot from other teams so it helps with them learning how to counter it.
The part I don’t understand is why BB thought MP and JJ would be able to teach the offense this system when neither of them has a track record as an offensive mind and neither of them has any in depth experience with coaching this new system?
Surely it would have made more sense to hire an OC, wide zone guru who’s coached and called plays in games using this system?
Thoughts?
