I mean, come on people. Come October or November no one is going to give a singular shit about what happened on a Tuesday practice in August. What is even the point? The media are reading much farther into the actual results of each rep than the team are (they are far more focused on individual performance on each rep than they are on the outcome of the rep as a whole). Everything is scripted and pre-planned, circumstances are adjusted to work on specific teaching points, and the playspeed is way, WAY slower than even a preseason game. Its simply not useful analysis or information. There is nothing to glean from it - which leads me to my next point...
The media can frame these practices however they want, and they choose to analyze these practices on a result-based scale. If this isn't how teams are self-scouting themselves, then how is it useful for us as fans? Its not. Its a predetermined framing designed to create angst amongst the fans, which drives ratings and readability. This kind of shit does not happen in small markets. The media knows exactly how to play us.
Even if poor team performance in practice was indicative of regular season outcomes, what is the point of wringing our hands and being worried now? Well, when you're worried, you are more inclined to check in with NBC Sports or Boston Blowjob Sports Journal or whatever to see if maybe today you can be momentarily relieved from the angst that the media bestowed upon you yesterday.
Enough of this shit. Bring on the games.
EDIT to say that this shit applies to positive reports from camp, as well. The truth is that the media spend all of camp commenting on shit that they are not qualified to comment on. Their utility at practice does not extend beyond taking attendance.
