First off, I hate to say this. Organizations that repeatedly hire and fire coaches are dysfunctional. I think most of us are rooting for Mayo to succeed. I was hopeful with the first half of this offseason (outside of the the missteps at OT and some of the unnecessary above market extensions).
But…this is starting to look like Mayo will be gone before the end of his second season. The deleted report about the locker room mutiny is weird. Mayo is in a really difficult position as he wasn’t supposed to be the HC for another couple of years and the roster he inherited is bottom tier. I’m supportive of sitting Maye in the short term, especially given how bad we can expect the O-line to be the rest of the year but I’m not sure if Mayo will be able to survive waiting for Drake to be ready.
I wish we had officially promoted Mayo to DC and either hired Vrabel or some offensive focused coach that could provide scheme continuity for Maye. I think Vrabel would have been a great mentor to Mayo and showed him how to effectively transition from player to HC.
