PC hatched a Goliath spider egg – are there rules for raising monsters?

I know the books sometimes talk about the value of monster eggs and that a griffon egg may fetch a nice price. But are there actual rules to hatch an egg and raise the monster?

My players fought a goliath spider and afterwards our shaman took an egg. Now the little spider crawled out of the egg - what do I do?

The PCs are currently level 8, so for the foreseeable future, a full-grown Goliath Spider will significantly impact encounters. And the campaign has plenty of downtime, so it's not completely out of the question for it to grow.

I don’t want to completely shut down this idea because it’s pretty cool, but I also don’t want to upset the game balance (too much). How should I handle this?

Only guidelines are under the Handle Animal skill.

But RAW: a DC15 HD determines if you have the skills to raise an "animal" a colossal spider would be DC29.

Vermin are animals, just mindless, which means no skills, feats or tricks can be learned.

At my table: (homebrew).
That being said, I have always used house rules to make the process more interactive. Giving stackable bonuses to those who actually RP taking care of the egg/critter. I also do 3 checks.

It starts with a 1/4DC check to see if you can keep the creature alive. (DC8 for this spider) Fail means it dies.

A 1/2DC check as it grows. To see if it trusts you (DC15 for this spider) fail means it runs away.

lastly a full DC check to see if it's domesticated and will serve you. Fail means it departs on good terms, but won't serve you.

Success on all three means. You have a loyal companion.

Tarantula's live 10-30 years. So will assume these guys are on the longer end. I use dogs for my math, and they live 15 years and take 2 years to rear. Double that to get the spiders life and you have 4 years or rearing.
