Starter Items for Level 3 adventurers?

According to the rulebook, starting level 3 adventurers get the option of 1) Get 1 Level 2 Item, 2 Level 1 Items and 25gp, or 2) Get 75gp.
What Level 1 and Level 2 items are the best to start with?
Let's also try other than 1 weapons (some players I know want something different) or relics (GM said no starting and he will give them if he wants).
Also, is there a way to etch a Scroll in the Scrollstaff without knowing or using crafting?
