New 40L Black Hole Duffel Sizing vs Old 40L

Hi Everyone,
Iām in the market for a weekender/ duffel bag to use as a carry on. While doing my research, I noticed the new 40Lās measurements (19.7 x 12.5 x 8.5) are smaller than the old 40L (21 x 13.7 x 10.6).
Despite the size difference, is the new 40L the same size as the old 40L, or should I buy the 55L (22.8 x 13.3 x 9.5) which is more on par with the old 40L?
