Hello fellow park people! I’m working on a project in which I highlight stories of the unique people who studied, founded, protected, or inspired the creation of our public lands from around the country. Obviously, I’ve already got Teddy Roosevelt, John Muir, Gifford Pinchot, etc. At this point, I’m interested in hearing stories that most people wouldn’t be familiar with.
For example, most people probably haven’t heard of Tie Sing. He was the chef on Stephen Mather’s Mountain Party. This Yosemite expedition was used to convince powerful men of the importance of protecting these wonderful places. Without a delicious meal in their bellies, these men might not have been able to appreciate the majesty around them.
I’m not limiting it to just National Parks. I’m also interested in Monuments, State Parks, historic sites, etc. Essentially any public lands are fair game. So, what’s the story from your site that more people should know about?

That's super interesting. I've been there. It's a beautiful park! You'd never guess it was built on sand dunes.
