Hey everyone. I was wondering if you have any current or past experience with the hiring process being so delayed like it seems to be this year, since this is my first federal job. I've been tentatively hired as a park ranger for the Forest Service and my start date is next week, but not all my on-boarding steps are completed. I have the drug test and physical left, which I'm guessing will take a few more weeks based on the speed of the first two steps.
I would assume this would delay one's start date and I asked my supervisor in an email last week about it, but she ignored my question and just responded to a different part of the email. I also called and left a message yesterday, but haven't heard back yet. So, my question to you guys is, can I even legally start this job without being officially hired and so should I expect the date to be delayed? Or should I make sure I'm there for the start date anyway? Mostly asking so that I can make sure I'm packed and moved to the area in time.
Nope. It's an interpretive Park Ranger position at a National Monument that's run by the forest service.
Hmm... Come to think of it. I did actually receive a confirmation letter in my email a couple days ago. Does this mean they're just skipping the other steps or do I still have to do the drug test and physical?

Thanks for the info. I did contact my supervisor, but she hadn't gotten back to me. It's an interpretive Park Ranger position at a National Monument that's run by the forest service.
