Why are y’all so weird about people waving at your small children?

Post Body
At the grocery store there are a lot of parents with their toddlers and such and the children sometimes stare at people. If a child is staring at me, I just give them a quick smile (can’t see though because of my mask) and wave as I pass by, but sometimes the parents have this look like “why are you interacting with my child?” I mean come on. If your child is looking at me, I’m going to wave at them. Why do parents have such ugly attitudes? Maybe it’s racism?
