My son is 13 and lately has been eating a LOT. For the record last time we checked his BMI it was 18.7 and that was maybe 2 months ago and his body composition hasn't changed since. Hes kinda scrawny tell the truth.
But lately he's been eating a lot. A LOT. I'm talking 3 square meals, 2-3 large oranges, a bag of chips, a large bowl of ice cream, half a cucumber with ranch, and maybe a few other smaller snacks.
On the weekends feel like one long extended snacking marathon for him. We will eat WHATEVER we have on hand. This weekend he went through basically an entire 18 pack of granola bars. It looks like binge eating, basically.
I've never been one to withhold food and have always allowed treats in reasonable quantities. When he was younger he would ask and it usually wound up being 2 smallish treats a day. But he will now just go through like... an entire large box of popsicles in 2 days. Its super annoying when he does this and I've had the conversation that I bought these things to last all of us a week with him many times and he just keeps doing it.
Is this normal for kids his age to eat this much? And be inconsiderate about food? Is he eating because he's bored? It has been rather slow in our lives due to the bitterly cold weather here and covid and being in a new city.
