Step dad here of a 8 year old girl looking for some advice.
A. My daughter does not do any of her class work and is slipping further back academically, her nana coddles her and reads for her and tells her what time it is etc. She has no self responsibility to learn to push or try hard because her nana just does it all..
So now I have everyone pretty much hating me for
A. Correct bad behavior, ending the running around the house during class time, forcing them to focus or be grounded.
B. If I get upset at all and raise my voice to tell them to get back in line, Im immediately seen as bad man.
I love the kids to death but I feel so defeated, I feel as if my input has no value.. Im so worried when they get older they will be even further behind and this will lead to bad choices.
Question:
A. How can I tell my daughter that this lack of effort is absolutely not acceptable without seeming like a villain?
- When she's grounded she does sit there and do the work, just by then she's missed everything the teacher had to teach.
