I posted here a few weeks back regarding my son still sleeping in his parents bed. The general opinion was that this was very inappropriate for his age and I did agree totally. His mother and I are separated so I only have a say as to what goes on in my house. He was sleeping with me once per week because I lived in a small one bed apartment until November of last year. I now have a 3 bed house and he has his own bedroom.
For several weeks now i've been transitioning him into his own bed. I followed some suggestions from here and I sit at the side of him until he falls asleep. Last week he slept all the way through but occasionally he comes down into my bedroom at around 6am saying he's scared and sobbing slightly. I've been resisting letting him back into my bed and I've been telling him to go back to his bedroom and sleep plus I've gone back up and sat beside him. Am I doing the right thing by not letting him back in my bed even if he's scared?
P.S. I discussed with his mother what I was going to do and it may be an ideal opportunity to get him sleeping in his own bed at her house but, It appears that she's not taken my advice. I'm afraid that he may not want to come to stay at my house if he's been made to stay in his own bed when he's frightened.
