My father-in-law is a minister and his church runs a week (5 days) long "holiday club" which is a 2 hour long activity session each day. My in-laws stay just over an hour away from us.
My husband has agreed with his mother to send our oldest, 6 year old son, to theirs for the duration of the holiday club. Which means we'll take him up on the Sunday and probably won't see him again untill late Friday or early Saturday.
This will be the first time he's been away from my husband and I and I am not okay with this.
The original plan was to send him to thier holiday house (2.5 hours away) for 2 nights ahead of us joining them but I had a business course so we couldn't do that. So this was the alternative plan with husband's parents came up with.
6 year old still requests cuddles to sleep most nights. He's also my main helper with his siblings (3 year old boy and 1.5 year old girl) during the day. I don't mean that he looks after them but just by him playing with them cuts down on the amount of fights they get into and makes the times I have to be doing something like washing dishes or making food easier.
Plus, you know, he's 6. So I have my reservations about sending him away for 5 or 6 nights. I'm worried that he'll want to come home and they'll make him stay because they think he should. I'm worried because my in-laws can be quite cold and distant and my little guy is used to cuddles and being played with, something I've rarely seen them do with any of thier grandchildren. Yes, I'm also worried how his siblings will react to him not being around and wether that will make a harder week for me.
Part of my feels he's too young for this. Am I just being silly? Would you send him?
TL;DR, Husband wants to send 6 year old to in-laws for 5 nights. 6 year old has never been away from us. I'm not convinced it's a good idea.
