Sometimes kids say things that make you reevaluate a lot… yesterday my oldest (he's 13, almost 14) said that he didn’t want kids when he grows up. I told him that would be his decision but I asked him why. He said that it seems like having kids is a big pain and that he wonders how we put up with them. I responded by telling him that I’ve never once regretted it and that there is frustration and difficulty in any venture but I do enjoy being a parent and feel that it is very worth it. I also told him that he and his siblings do make me very happy and I am very proud of how they are growing up.
He went to bed shortly after that. It’s eaten at me since then, though. It’s making me reevaluate how I act as a parent. I don’t want them to feel like they are a burden or that I think they are in my way of happiness. I’m still not entirely sure about the whole conversation… I’m still digesting it… but it’s definitely making me think.
