Hey Everyone.
Second kid, 20 month old daughter, has been having some bad sleep issues since she was about 2 months. She's never slept through the night, let alone, rarely making it over 2 hours at at a time.
Mom still nurses 3 times a day (twice during the day and once as a last resort at night when she wakes up and is hard to get back down)- slowly weaning. We don't do cry it out (we didn't do cry it out with our first who is, at 3, a decent sleeper. At 20 months he was easily sleeping 8 hours a night straight)... We rock her to sleep and she generally goes easily into her crib and doesn't mind staying in there. Never fail, she'll wake. Somewhere between her 1st half hour and 2 hours, then every 1-2 hours until morning. We think it could be related to her nose.
She's always stuffy- Runny when she has a cold(typical), and a dry stuffy when she doesn't. We've gotten into the routine of always cleaning her nose out extremely well with some nasal spray, maybe sucking it out, before bed times but when she wakes up, she's almost always stuffy.
We aren't sure if that's what's causing her waking or if it's because she hasn't learned to settle. We've done our best to teach her how to self-sooth. She seems to want to go back to sleep, but acts like she's irritated with something.
After some research, we found that a really stuffy nose can be caused by enlarged adenoids. She has other symptoms like semi-frequent ear infections, and she's kind of a peanut (but her momma is small, too) but does not have apnea that we can tell. We ruled out allergies (blood test) and we have scheduled an ENT visit to check but they are booked 2 months out.
Has anyone dealt with something similar, either frequent waking of a healthy 20 month old or enlarged adenoids?
Any insight would be wonderful
Thanks!
