Edit: I just want to say that I appreciate everyone that's stopped by here to offer words of support and advice, and I want to thank everyone who has been vulnerable and shared your stories of grief and loss. I'm not able to respond to everyone here but I am reading every single comment. Thank you so much.
OP: My daughter is 13 years old. Yesterday one of her good friends shot and killed himself. My daughter tried to go to school today but I ended up bringing her home. She's just absolutely devastated. I don't know how to help her. She isn't interested in talking to a therapist right now but is open to doing it in the future. I've just been giving her lots of hugs. I gave her any photos I had of the two of them together. And we've shared some tears.
The school is of course saying that this wasn't a bullying situation. And I know the kid had a lot going on at home. But my daughter tells me that on Friday she witnessed another kid tell her friend to go kill himself. So she's rightfully angry about that.
What can I do to support her during this time?
