When I was younger, about 10, I had my first encounter with a pair of glowing green eyes. I don’t know what they are or what they were attached to but I am glad I have only seen them 2 times. I am really hoping I don’t experience a 3rd time.

My first encounter happened when I was about 10 years old. I lived out in the country and we have some outside animals. A couple of goats and a Welsh Mountain pony (she was my pony). We also had 5 dogs that were inside dogs.

One night my brother’s dog was outside yipping. I say yipping because his dog was a Chihuahua. We are going to call this dog Black, because he was black and white.

Black was outside and he was yipping and it was annoying my dad who was trying to watch TV. My dad was yelling for my brother to come get his dog. Well, I wish my brother had been the one to go get his stupid dog. I was not that lucky. My dad saw me and yelled at me to come let the dog in.

I went to the back door and called for Black to come in, but he wasn’t moving from his spot in the yard. So, I went outside and started to walk out to him. That is when I noticed these glowing green eyes. I know that different animals have reflective eyes at night and they have different colors. Dogs have a red hint to them, cats have different colors, but the eyes seem to glow.

I stopped walking toward Black, and I started slapping my leg calling him. He turned and looked at me but started to bark at these eyes. Now these eyes are probably between 100 to 200 feet away from where I am standing. They are right next to the horse gate into the pasture where you guessed it my pony and the goats are.

Well my bright idea was to scare whatever the hell these things were off. I grabbed a rock out of the grass and chucked it at the horse gate. I heard the rock connect with the metal and it made the clunk sound. I am use to seeing Raccoons, Opossums, and even Foxes in our yard. These eyes were about a foot of the ground, maybe a little higher.

I was 10 so give me a break. I wasn’t very good with judging height or distance. It was what these eyes did that had me running for the door. Right after the rock hit the gate the eyes looked at each other and then looked right back at me. Black run up to the house, I ran up to the house. I didn’t want to go back outside for anything.

Animals normally scamper off when something like that happens. Whatever was in the pasture wasn’t startled or scared by me throwing a rock that close to them. Short time later my parents had to put my pony down because her intestines had become twisted. It was either a 5k surgery or a 100$ shot.

The next time I saw these eyes was about 10 to 11 yrs later. I was living in my first apartment right next to a school yard. I was on the 2nd floor and had a balcony. My dog and I would go out and just sit on the balcony and enjoy the weather.

One evening she and I had just gotten back from her walk. I made my dinner and fed her. I decided we would go sit out on the balcony and enjoy the setting sun. My dog at the time only barked when someone knocked on my apartment door.

She started barking and growling, and sticking her head between the guard rail supports. She had never behaved like this before. I could look down through the wood boards and see that my down stairs neighbor wasn’t on his little patio. So I started to look around and see what the hell she was getting agitated for.

I didn’t see any cats or another dog anywhere. As I looked toward the school yard, just on the other side of the chain-link fence, were those damn green glowing eyes again. They were staring up at me. I got her back inside my apartment.

I wanted to know what the hell these things were. The sun had set so it was pretty dark. I went back out on my balcony and they were just there not even 100 feet from my apartment building just staring at me. I didn’t have anything to throw at them. I just stared right on back at them.

Then just as suddenly as they appeared, they were just gone. It was like they blinked and forgot to open their eyes again. But I couldn’t make out any kind of body shape. I went on the internet and searched for animals that lived in that area. Then I went through as much information as I could about each animal. NONE of them had green reflective eyes. This had to be the same things from years before.

I went inside and locked the sliding door, I even found an umbrella to shove between the door and the frame to prevent it from being able to slide open. I didn’t want those things to find a way into my apartment. I didn’t sleep very well that night. I was up bright an early for a Sunday morning, but it was because I couldn’t sleep.

I had received an email from my mom around 5 am. It was a very sad email. My other brother’s dog had passed away during the late evening early night the day before. My mom had emailed all of my siblings to let us know. My brother at the time was overseas, and this dog was a real family pet.

These were the 2 times that I had seen these eyes and 2 times a significant animal in my life had died shortly after. I have asked myself many time about what these eyes are and what they mean. Are they telling me that an animal I hold dear is about to die?

Glowing green eyes are death.
