As the town developed, there were many customs and traditions that developed in the area. Among the many well-known traditional activities in Parañaque were sabong, or cockfight, in which owners of roosters agree to have their pet roosters fight in a cockpit or coliseum. Caracol, which means a festivity of boats, was also held regularly, and this festivity served as a tradition after processions to commemorate feast days in the local church. The annual Lenten festivities were also held in the town, the Cenaculo or the Feast of the Resurrection of Christ, as well as the Santacruzan or Flores de Mayo procession and parade are also practiced in Parañaque. La Huerta, a Spanish word which means “orchard” became another famous barangay, as the place was filled with lush greenery and thick forests.
