For background history: my first job was at Pizza Hut, and I worked there for nearly a year. I was the sole CSR there, which meant I REALLY had to be quick on my feet, and quick to learn. When shit hit the fan, the managers helped the cooks more than they helped me. In that sense, I learned to handle most customer complaints on my own (it got to where the manager trusted me with her keycard to void orders, so she didn't have to constantly come off makeline/oven to do it). Even now, aside from the occasional customer that triggers anxiety (I mean that medically, not as a throwaway term), I prefer to resolve customer issues.
Papa Johns was the second job where I had to be "everywhere", so to speak. Of course, I'm more than proficient with dealing with customers, but I also gained skills on makeline and oventending. I get overwhelmed more quickly on oven than makeline, but I'd call myself pretty good at both.
I talked to an assistant manager that I worked with for a few months. He suggested that I needed to be louder, and more assertive (which I'm terrible at, admittedly; I'm way more submissive to perceived authority, and that's something I really want to change).
If I'm being completely honest, the only reasons I'm considering it is better pay, and a desire to take on more responsibility. I make $11 an hour and work roughly 18-20 hours a week (with a few underscheduled and scheduled-more-than-usuals). I need to make a lot more headway with saving for a car, and to move out, PLUS I gain something actually useful to put on my resume.
Should I pursue it, jumping from Insider to some kind of manager? As of right now, my open availability is Wed-Sun, but the manager I talked to said that might have to change. The only reason I can't work Mon-Tues is because I go to my mother's on those days, and moving with her isn't an option, as I won't have a reliable way to work without scheduling around her job (I live with grandmother, and she takes me). But at the same time, if I end up opening or closing, I'll have to find my own ride at some point.
