So which creatures are worth summoning?

I'm playing a shifter but kind of curious, which creatures you would recommend for summoning for this kind of role?
-Meat Shield (seems like Minor Earth Elemental have no defense vs mind control...make them quite prime candidate for summoning) -Scout -Something that does a lot of damage -Other utility summons like ones used to learn new spells etc...
