Quick Terminus tips

Post Body

So I've been noticing a lot of outdated guides or even guides that don't make sense at all on the internet, so I've decided to make a quick guide for my main tank, Terminus. Feel free to correct me if you think I'm wrong at a certain point. I'm also making this guide for people who are fairly into the Terminus game already, so I'm not going to explain his abilities in-depth.

  1. Loadout

First of all you should learn one rule that you can apply to every single champion in the game: your loadout has to be a combination of the best loadout cards (objectively) and the loadout cards that match your playstyle. Don't rely on healing cards too much, as they are fairly easy to counter with cauterize. The better choice would be damage reduction cards or, in this case, cards that will help you stay alive longer, which is necessary for a tank. I will give you a loadout I use almost every single time, but feel free to scroll to my other loadouts. My in-game name is the same as my username on here.

The talent I use is Decimation (Calamity Blast deals an additional 100 damage) as it gives you real burst potential and matches my playstyle very well. This doesn't mean you can't be a point tank, on the contrary, but this is the talent I feel most effective with.

A card you can never go wrong with is Hulking Monstrosity (Gain 150 - 750 health). I use this one in every single one of my loadouts and it's a good card with a noticeable advantage starting from level 3, which is the level I got it on.

Next one will be Necromantic Might (Reduce the damage required to generate a Calamity Blast by 120 - 600) at level 5. You will notice that you'll get Calamity Blasts for the smallest amounts of damage. This makes this card synergize insanely well with the next loadout cards.

I know I talked about this type of cards in the intro, but I take this as an exception: Devastation (Hitting an enemy with Calamity Blast heals you for 50 - 250 health) has saved me tons and tons of times. The ability to get rid of all cauterize with your Power Siphon and then blasting all 5 charges in someone's face while getting healed for every hit is absurd. You can choose at what level you set this card, I'll usually have it at 3. You could set it to 4, but that will take points away from the next card you can use.

Abomination (Successful hits with Calamity Blast grants 1 - 5% Power Siphon Charge) was added with the removal off built-in CC immunity and cauterize, and it has honestly made the nerf to Termi's Power Siphon neglectable. If you have set Devastation at level 3, you can set this one at level 3 as well, which will help you keep yourself and your team alive.

Last card is a filler, doesn't really matter what card you pick, whatever matches your playstyle. I personally take Wrecking Ball (Increase the leap distance of Shatterfall by 10 - 50%), just so I can get that extra leap distance to slow an enemy down, although Powerslave (Reduce the self slow of Power Siphon by 15 - 75%), Unfeeling (Gain 8 - 40% damage reduction for 2s after landing from Shatterfall), We Can Rebuild Him (Below 50% health receive 5 - 25% more healing) or It Waits (Every 1s channeling Power Siphon reduces the cooldown of Shatterfall by 0.2 - 1s) would work here as well.

  1. Items

Items are probably the reason you are not preforming as you should with Terminus, especially the Utility items are a disaster.

You'll want to start off depending on the comp you're facing. If they have a CC-heavy team that is really gonna be a pain in the ass to you (e.g. Khan's Commanders Grab or Furia's Pyre Strike), you can start off with Resilience, although if not I would always advice to go Rejuvenate first. If you're facing an Inara, which is commonly picked against Terminus, just pick up Bulldozer together with Rejuvenate and start one-shotting that Warder's Field. The same thing is applicable for Barik's Turrets.

So you've got your green item. After having picked up Rejuvenate II I mostly take Nimble before anything else. Morale Boost isn't going to benefit you as much as nimble, neither is Master Riding and don't even start talking about Chronos, as his only cooldown-based ability that is worth buying Chronos for is Shatterfall, which is just not worth it.

As a red item, if you haven't picked up Bulldozer, you'll probably want to pick up Cauterize. Although Terminus isn't the best cauterizer, neither is he the best wrecker, it's better than nothing and is gonna benefit your team more than wrecker, as most of the time you will be behind the shield smashing their brains out.

As for blue items you'll want to pick up Haven, Blast Shields or Resilience, depending on the enemy team.

I hope this guide has helped you. Feel free to add me on Paladins if you want to play with me and sub to my YT, if you wanna support a very small channel wanting to grow.
