Does 8gb vs 16gb GPU vram makes any difference?

Near me used rtx 3070 and rx6800 have a similar price and according to GPU benchmarks they have similar scores. But rtx 3070 has 8gb and rx 6800 has 16gb so I’m confused which one should i get. What’s your practical observation?
