All the cool kids had Tyvek ground sheets for their tents. I was so jealous and checked every harware store along the PCT for Tyvek, but never found it. The only way to buy it is in 9'x150' rolls for $225 (there are 3'x100' rolls but 3' is too narrow).
Before I commit to buying that much Tyvek, I wanted to see if there is any interest in the community for buying smaller sheets from a big roll. It's about $1.50 per foot, so if your tent is 4 feet wide, that's only $6 for a ground sheet. With shipping and a few bucks for my time, I'm guessing it would be no more than $15 total. So who wants some Tyvek?
For those unfamiliar with Tyvek, it's a fabric-like plastic sheeting. If you've ever gone to an event and gotten a sticky wristband, it was probably Tyvek. It's durable, water resistant, and very difficult to tear. If you're crafty, of sure you could make a pack liner/cover, a tent stake bag, or anything else you can dream up!
