When the IDR Waiver was first announced, I immediately downloaded my data to see if this affected me. There was a very long period of time during which I just could not afford payments and I knew that I had been placed on some sort of pause. back when this happened, I reached out to FedLoan, explained my situation and filed out the electronic form. I remember specifically saying economic hardship. The period that I am seeing irregularities is from 04/15-12/16.
The data I downloaded from StudentAid did not really match what I thought had happened. I called FedLoan to make sure I was reading it the information correctly because some of it was not making sense - like random 1 months RP in between a forbearance or being in a different status than I remembered. My questions:
1- I have a super long stretch of time where I was working FT but couldn't pay. I was always under the impression that I was in forbearance. FedLoan shows me as unemployment deferment. Is it worth it to fight it? I don't recall ever mentioning unemployment - I would have asked for help based on hardship because that's what it was. With the IDR waiver it seems that the Unemp Def will not count. I was not unemployed. I was hit with double day care dues as my youngest made her unexpected entrance to the world when my oldest was 20 months...
2- I have some months of late school notification forbearance. Does this count under the IDR waiver? I was already out of school grace period. I don't even know what this is for.
3- Finally what is up with these periods where there's a random pause? Are they going to count? What are mean are these: General Forbearance 11/01-09/30, In Repayment 10/01-10/21, GF 10/21-12/07, In Repayment 12/08.....
This is so confusing- I am trying not get my hopes up but I also want to make sure I protect myself. As I have told Fedloan multiple times, I am happy to make a payment I just can't afford the full amount.
