So I just took apart, cleaned, and replaced the thermal paste in my ps4 pro after 4 years. I did this mostly because I plan on giving it to my younger brother when I get my ps5... eventually.
Anyway, it never occurred to me that 4 years of dust would be the culprit behind how loud the damn thing was ("duh" I know). I'm sure the paste replacement played a huge part too (got some high quality stuff). But now it's completely silent, so silent in fact, that I keep checking to make sure the fan is actually spinning in case I forgot to plug it back in.
Even when playing Cyberpunk, it's silent. Am I missing something here? I just find it hard to believe, I mean, the past few years I've just been putting up with the noise, going so far as to stick the thing in my closet. But now, it's just... quiet.
This was my first time dismantling technology in order to improve it and it's a great feeling. I'll definitely be doing stuff like this more often. It's so nice not having it blaring in the background. If your ps4 is super loud, try taking it apart, cleaning the heat sink, and replacing the thermal paste. You have nothing to lose really, chances are, your ps4 is out of warranty anyway. So you don't have to worry about the warranty void stuff. It's a pretty straightforward process too, just dont spill water over the thing, or drop it, or be too rough with the insides.
