Couple of external hard drive questions

Hey all. I have a PS4 Pro with 1TB. Thinking about upgrading the memory by adding an external hard drive

1) Is there any performance/speed/loading increases by having games installed on an external drive rather than an internal?

2) I currently have my PS4 usb settings to not supply power when the ps4 is in rest mode. Should I turn that feature back on if I add an external hard drive (I'm assuming this would then keep the drive on at all times/spinning, so probably not recommended). Are there any drawbacks if I keep the feature off with an external connected (would I still get random game updates)?
