Finally got my first PS3, an Ultra Slim, got a couple of questions though...

My Xbox 360 was one of the worst consoles I ever owned: unbearable noise, shitty dvd drive.
So I want to know what should I do in order to "preserve" it ?
Unfortunately the one I got was a 12 gig version, but I got an hdd and I couldn't get it to work, it's all loose in there, I saw on a few forums that I should put some cardboard to hold it steady but I'm too paranoid. Any advice?
