I have a CECHG04 PS3 that I was tasked with fixing. I know a thing or 2 about consoles but this is quite weird. The console had trouble reading discs so I swapped the laser and although it did make it better it still won't run games.
I have tested:
- Music CD - plays perfectly.
- PS1 game (demo disc) - plays perfectly.
- PS2 game - reads fine but console isn't backwards compatible.
- Xbox 360 game (lol) - reads video partition but won't play it.
- DVD Video - plays perfectly
Blu-ray Movie- Don't own any.- PS3 game - (a whole stack of them) game shows up, icon background and music but when launching it gives error 80010017.
I have tried:
- Restoring PS3.
- Rebuilding Database.
- Completely new hard drive.
- Checking continuity of drive cables.
- Checking for physical motherboard damage.
- Checking for BD motherboard damage.
Nothing that I tried fixed the error. I don't suspect it could be the SATA-PATA controller or southbridge as if that were the case I'd imagine the drive wouldn't work at all. The laser is out of the question as I have in fact put in a new one, 0% chance it's the games.
I've heard of married motherboards but I couldn't find any conclusive information on that and I have no clue how a console with a mismatched BD would act especially since mine does seem to play ps1 games just fine.
I have basically run out of ideas and I would infinitely appreciate any suggestion.
Btw the console is in pieces RN so if you know any possible hardware issues, now would be the time.
Also It's not my console so I'm a little reluctant to resort to CFW unless I know I have to.
