I find it so frustrating when my family members and friends suggest going to the gym to feel better. I wish it were that easy! It makes me feel immediately insecure that they think I choose to be this fatigued, and also reminds me that they have no idea what it’s like to experience chronic exhaustion.
No matter how well I repeatedly explain the mechanism of POTS, people suggest exercise as a way to feel better. They don’t understand that standing up is the trigger. It’s also annoying because exercise IS a major component of treatment, so they’re not wrong…. But they haven’t learned about POTS and are just giving cliche advice.
Anyone else feel this way? How do you respond, if so? Should I just smile and nod?
