She’s not there, of course, because she doesn’t actually exist. You don’t mind the look of me, though, so you invite me in “to wait for her to come home.”
You’re in the middle of a movie, which you unpause. You ask if it’s okay to turn the lights back down to better see the screen. Just as I notice how chilly it is in the room, you beckon me closer to you on the couch so that you can shift your blanket to cover me, too.
It’s not long before our bodies are pressed together under the blanket, and the gentle, “absentminded” mutual caressing begins. Will we get to the kissing before we start agonizing about whether this is fair to “Janet?” Or will we zip right past those guilty thoughts and just go for it?
