Hey! Some of you might not have any experience with r4r-like subreddits so let me give you a few hints on how to make friends using this community.

First you should read through some posts that have been posted recently and see if you find anyone interesting.

If you find someone you wanna know better take a minute or two to go through their post history to perhaps know a bit more about them. In some cases, the post history can tell you more than the post ro r/PLr4r. If you still want to talk to them after the "screening" it's time to hit them up. You can use comments or message them directly using either the messaging system or the chat feature. Both have advantages and disadvantages, if the OP specified the method he wants you to use then it's best to do what they requested.

If you haven't found anyone you are interested in then it's time to make your own post.

First of all, make sure that you follow all the rules of the subreddit, remember to title your post correctly putting your age and then using the [M4F], [F4A] style tags (you can read more about them in the rules. You could add your location, but that is optional. The rest is your invention - you can write anything that you think might catch others' attention, mention what you are looking for, some cool fact about you or just say that you are bored (tho this might not get you as much attention).

In the description list out all the details you wanna share. There is no real limit of what you can put in there as long as it doesn't break the reddiquette and subreddit rules. Be sure to mention your goal - what you are looking for, that is the most important part of your post as it will let people know if you are a good match. Explain if you want a friend, a relationship or a one time talk. Let people know if you want it to be online only or if you are looking to meet in real life or simply mention that you don't know but you are open to possibilities. There is no wrong way to describe it, as long as you give out some information. You can treat it as an advertisement, you want to attract others, so be precise about what you are offering and what you are expecting in return.

One of the most important rules of those kind of communities is to not feel down if you get no responses. It happens, especially now that the r/PLr4r community is very small - you might not fit into other people's expectations and there is nothing wrong with that! Some people get along well with anyone, others need a very specific type of a person to match well with. Don't let anything get too much into your head and just because your post didn't get you what you wanted doesn't mean there is anything wrong with you.

If you do start talking to someone, try to say more than "hey, what's up?". Those kind of messages get boring very quickly. Be descriptive, use proper sentences and put some effort into it and I promise you that it will pay off sooner or later.

Remember to take safety precautions. Meeting strangers IRL can be scary, but even online talks can have their own issues at times. Don't ever give out more personal information than you want to. It's usually better to use anonymous-ish communicators like Telegram, Kik, Discord or even just staying on Reddit. If you do plan to meet up with someone, try public places first, make sure you are comfortable around the person before you dive too deep. An overwhelming majority of those interactions are positive (yes, talking form my experience) but be sure to be cautious before you are comfortable. Remember that your partner might be feeling the same thing, be understanding, don't push too hard and only do what you both feel comfortable doing. Communication is the key to understanding and success.

Most important aspect is - have fun and try to make others' lives fun! It's a great pleasure to find people you can get along well with.
