My customer, which is an integration shop for other clients, wants to start using a Siemens rack as the safety PLC and non-safety connected to a main PLC which would be whatever Allen Bradley. Their idea is to set io once on the Siemens and never have to touch it again, and use messaging to talk between the two. Their justification: cost savings. I wanted to "face palm" right then and there. I told them what they were describing was DeviceNet 2.0, and that I believed it to be a terrible idea. I guess on the plus side, I'd get called up for some very interesting problems.
