Protected properties and methods: Good or bad?
Post Body
I noticed that the PhpStorm plugin PhpClean (https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/11272-phpclean) doesn't like it when you make properties or methods protected and suggests you make them public or private. I've been familiar with object-oriented design for nearly 20 years and never have I heard a bad word against protected members. Is it just this plugin or is this a new trend in OOP that I'm unfamiliar with?
